Operational Delivery Profession: delivering for the country

The Operational Delivery Profession (ODP) is the largest professional community in the Civil Service. We make up more than half of the Civil Service roles and we’re the vital link between government policy and improving lives.

From working in Jobcentres, courts, and tax offices to roles in border control, passports and driving licences, our work covers everything the civil service does where we interact with the public – directly or indirectly.

For me, being part of the Operational Delivery Profession has opened up valuable cross-departmental collaboration opportunities, especially through my involvement in ODP Fest. While gaining a Level 6 Leadership qualification several years ago was a milestone, the real benefit has been the sense of belonging to a profession that fosters networking, shared learning and collective impact across the Civil Service.

Joining ODP gives you the development, support, and training needed to be fully equipped to deliver for the country and citizens.

  • A career roadmap: our Professional Skills Framework outlines the skills needed in different operational delivery jobs, what opportunities exist to develop those skills, and support to progress to more senior positions.
  • Mentoring and coaching: you have access to LISTR, ODP’s online tool, to find mentors, coaches, or buddies matched to your needs, skills, and availability.
  • Qualifications and learning: access a range of recognised qualifications, a collection of learning resources and a free e-library on topics like customer service and digital skills.

How to join

Anyone with a government email address can sign up to the ODP website. It’s the easiest way to keep up to date and access our membership offer.
